Gerry Gallacher (Osteopath)

My work is all about movement. My passion is helping people to move well so they can keep doing what they love doing.

I look for the underlying causes of injury by listening to people's stories, seeking connections and clues in their movements, and aim to improve these with a combination of manual therapy and exercises. Throughout the process, I want to help people understand more about their pain, injuries and movement so that they can take control and be more confident in looking after themselves.

My own injury journey began when I was at university training to be a dentist. The injury seemed to happen for no reason, but it meant that I couldn't take part in the sports I loved. I couldn't find the answers in the standard approaches which were offered at the time. I began to seek answers elsewhere and this eventually led to a change of career.  Now I understand why my injury happened, and the things I can do to help so many similar cases. I wish I'd been able to see me when I was younger!

My years in dentistry and maxillofacial surgery taught me attention to detail. My second degree in osteopathy taught me to look at the whole person. In my 25 years of practice since qualifying, I've always wanted to give maximum help to the people who come to see me, so I keep looking for areas to learn from other fields such as sport sciences, psychology and neuroscience. My way of working has evolved over the years and I now prioritise exercises with a strong emphasis on neuro-muscular activation and methods to ensure that the neural system itself can move freely.

I love seeing the changes in people when they move better and understand how they can keep improving - it's the best part of my job!

I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).
