Support for staff

Detailed below is a brief overview of resources available for both disabled people joining the University and those who become disabled or develop a long-term health condition, including mental health, during their employment with the University. To begin with, we recommend a conversation with your line manager to discuss any of the below and how they can support you at work.

Workplace Adjustment Plans

A Workplace Adjustment Plan is a living record of workplace adjustments agreed between a colleague and their line manager. It provides a framework to discuss, agree and review any support that may be required at work.

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP)

Anyone who may need assistance in an emergency evacuation should have a PEEP in place. PEEPs are designed to plan in advance for staff, or students, who may need assistance or special arrangements during an emergency evacuation of the building they are using.

Parking

You can park for free all-day in pay-and-display parking spaces in Bristol, by displaying your blue badge in your vehicle.

You may also apply for a University disabled parking permit.

Buildings and Facilities on Campus

The University has teamed up with AccessAble to give you detailed information about the accessibility of our facilities.

There is also a list of central teaching spaces, which provides links to documents detailing further information about central teaching rooms, including wheelchair access.

IT Software

There is a range of free available online tools to help with reading, writing and ways to enhance screen display, including MindView and Texthelp Read&Write.

The University licenses Microsoft Windows and Office 365 for productivity. Microsoft has an accessibility commitment and has functionality built into all applications.

Digital Accessibility

Digital Education Office have produced guides to ensure that content and activities are inclusive. The resources focus on digital accessibility and inclusion in learning, but can be useful in a variety of contexts, including work-related materials and activities.

Wellbeing Resources

There is a dedicated SharePoint of Resources for Staff Wellbeing. You can also view the People Development Wellbeing Webpage for further information about wellbeing.

The Employment Assistance Programme is a free 24/7 counselling and information service provided by Care First for University of Bristol staff.

Faculty HRBPS

Faculty Human Resource Business Partners (HRBPS) could be an alternative point of contact if you are unable to speak to your line manager, or if you have any concerns related to your disability or long-term health condition that you feel haven’t been adequately addressed.

Staff Networks

The Disability and Wellbeing Network (DAWN) supports disabled staff who work at the University by providing staff with a space to talk openly about disability, and to work with the University to ensure disabled voices are heard.

The Neurodiversity Staff Network is group of staff who have experience of neurodiversity, holding ‘Let’s Talk Neurodiversity’ sessions and Staff Network Meetings monthly.
