Popup Accessibility

When considering accessibility for Popups there are two aspects that need to be considered.

First you need to consider the accessibility of the Popup itself, the way in which the Popup's content is accessed through the Popup link.

Then you need to consider the accessibility of the content within the Popup.

The links that Popups use to open a new window containing Popup content present an accessibility obstacle for certain users because some browser and screen-reader configurations do not support content that is displayed in separate windows.

If accessible access is a priority for your target audience, you may wish to set Popups to open in the same window as the main course content. To do this, check the Open popup content in the main window box in the Navigation tab of the Settings window.

Most of the accessibility features for content that is inserted within a Popup function the same way that they do when the content is inserted anywhere else in your document.

However, if you use embedded Popups and you want to use accessibility features that normally rely on styles, such as cgCaption, cgSummary, cgTableColumnHead, and cgTableRowHead, you must use the 'popup' tag instead of styles since Microsoft Word does not allow you to apply more than one style to a single paragraph.

This only applies to embedded Popups, not isolated Popups.
