Volume EM

In Volume EM (vEM or 3D EM) a reconstructed 3D image of intracellular ultrastructural detail can be formed using sequential SEM images of cross-sections through a sample. The possible sample volume imaged in this way is greater than normally possible 2D thin section imaging using TEM.

The Wolfson Bioimaging Facility has a growing capacity to support different volume EM approaches with its high specification SEM.
