Kitchen facilities in self-catered accommodation
All self-catered accommodation has a communal kitchen where you can prepare and eat your meals.
You will be provided with:
- kettle
- toaster
- microwave
- cooker
- refrigerator
- freezer
- dining table and chairs
- storage cupboards.
Food and drink packages for dining halls or Source cafes
If you live in self-catered accommodation, but don't want to cook for yourself, you can buy a food and drink package. This will allow you to eat meals and have drinks in the dining halls of our catered accommodation and from any of our on-campus, Source, cafés.
You will be able to save money by purchasing a bundle of lunchtime meals in advance.
The food and drink packages include:
- Self-catered package the full year (term time): 36 weeks, 2 meals per day
- Self-catered package the term: 12 weeks, 2 meals per day
- Self-catered package 10 day special - 10 days, 2 meals per day.
Pantries in catered residences
In our catered accommodation, you will have a small pantry. You will be provided with a:
- microwave
- kettle
- toaster
- fridge
- limited storage space.
The provision is suitable for preparing light meals and snacks.
Meals in catered accommodation
Essential information about the eating meals in the dining halls of your residence.
Meal card
On arrival, you will be given a Source Dining Card. Staff will ask to see your meal card before serving you. You need to bring this card with you to the dining halls and scan the card at the till.
If you lend your meal card to someone else or misuse it in any other way, you will be charged for the meals taken and may face disciplinary action.
If you loose your meal card, please contact uob-catering@bristol.ac.uk or speak to your residence catering team. There is a £5 charge for a replacement card.
Meal times
Monday to Friday during term time:
- Breakfast: 7:30 am to 9:30 am
- Evening meal: 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Saturday and Sunday during term time:
- Breakfast: 8:00 am to 11:00 am (continental is 8:00 am to 9:00 am and cooked breakfast is 9:00 am to 11:00 am)
- Lunch: Midday to 1:30 pm
A streamlined catering service is provided during the Christmas and Easter vacations, served from either Clifton Hill House or Churchill Hall.
Allergy or dietary requirements
Before you arrive, you can let us know about any food allergy or dietary requirements in your Accommodation Induction. We will update your record and inform your halls of residence.
If your requirements change, please contact uob-catering@bristol.ac.uk. You can also contact your residence catering team, they will be happy to talk to you about your options or provide an alternative option.
Order a meal in advance
If you are not able to attend a meal, you can order a meal in advance. To do this, you will need to speak to the catering team in your dining hall and give them at least 24 hours' notice.
You will need to arrange a time to collect your meal from the dining hall in your residence. Late meals can be booked in advance for collection up to 8 pm.
Bringing a guest
Guests can purchase a meal at the till. It’s a great way of spending time with family and friends without the hassle of travelling to a restaurant. The cost for individual meals in dining halls are:
- Breakfast - £5.50
- Lunch/dinner £8.50
Dress code in dining hall
Whilst we do not impose a formal dress code, we ask that you dine in attire appropriate for a public space. For health and safety reasons, you must wear footwear in the dining hall at all times.

If you live in catered accommodation, you can buy additional meals and drinks to collect from any of our on-campus cafes.
