Working with Undergraduates

Undergraduates can add value to the work that industrial partners do through working on projects, as interns or via year in industry placements. Companies can also add value to undergraduate education experience through engagement events, talks and workshops.

Employ our undergraduates

Organisations can develop talent for potential future employees by offering undergraduate employment.

Propose a project

  • Propose a final year undergraduate project
This is a new initiative from the School of Mathematics where external partners work in collaboration with an academic supervisor and final year student for their project unit. Data Scientists from external partners are invited to set a real-life problem, data, presentation requirements to be completed as an assessed component of the final year.
  • Sponsor a Summer research project
The School of Mathematics run a scheme where students are paid employees of the University for 6 – 10 weeks during the summer vacation. The students work on projects proposed by academics from the School. External partners may fund an existing project or a project they propose to collaborate on with the academic and students. These projects are not assessed.

Participate in events

Sponsor an activity

  • Data workshops and ‘Datathon’ events
The School of Mathematics works with partners to collaborate on ‘Datathon’ style workshops: a sprint-style event based on a real-world or commercial problem. This is a great way to discover how undergraduate and PhD students can use novel mathematical techniques to solve your organisations data problems. Workshops can be targeted at undergraduate or postgraduate abilities.
