Programme structure
Single honours
First Year
All single honours courses share the same first year, with some slight variation for those taking Mathematics with Study in Continental Europe where a language unit is required. This lays a firm foundation for your studies and informs your choice of units in later years. View our programme catalogue for more information about these.
Second Year
In year two you will complete two core mandatory units in Calculus and Mathematical Programming. You can then choose topics that are of particular interest to you, from a wide range of optional units, meaning you can continue with a varied degree or choose to specialise. You may also take some units from outside mathematics.
For Mathematics with Statistics Bsc/MSci you will focus more on statistics and probability although there is still scope to take some units from other areas.
Third Year
In year three you will have a very wide choice of options from across mathematics to best fit your interests. You may also take some units from outside mathematics.
The third year of the Mathematics with Study in Continental Europe BSc/MSci and Mathematics with Study Abroad MSci is spent at a partner university overseas, provided you fulfil the progression requirements.
Fourth Year
In year four you will have a very wide choice of options from across mathematics to best fit your interests, benefiting from our pioneering research, including a mandatory project-based unit. You may take some units from outside mathematics.
The fourth year of the Mathematics with Study in Continental Europe BSc is the same as the third year of the Mathematics BSc.
