Bristol is a city at the forefront of the fight against climate change. European Green Capital in 2015, it hosts many key green institutions who are trying to change the economy for the better. The University of Bristol Business School takes sustainability seriously and we work alongside many of these organisations and activists. We believe we can contribute positively to both the natural and human world, changing business practices so that we can help to produce a low carbon, high inclusion, high democracy economy.

The University of Bristol Business School embeds sustainability into our curriculum at all levels. We want to equip students to engage with sustainability in their careers and lives, as well as producing research that tackles the big issues facing business and society. We all know that we need to change our economy, and at the University of Bristol, we are working on showing how that can happen.

Discover the Circular Agriculture Hub, a self-sustaining social enterprise co-developed by Dr Lucy McCarthy. Pairing farmers with surplus produce to food banks and social supermarkets, the Hub aims to reduce food waste and its lost value to farmers, whilst providing affordable food to local communities.

Responsible Business: Leading the Way podcast

Listen now to our Responsible Business podcast series, produced with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD). Host Professor Veronica Hope Hailey (the Dean of the Business School) and Katie Jacobs (Senior Stakeholder Lead at the CIPD) speak with business leaders to explore the revolutionised responsible business movement.

The Business School is currently focussing sustainability efforts on:

  1. Developing our teaching across the Business School curricula to ensure that we are teaching for sustainable business.
  2. Developing and expanding our connections and collaborations with organisations and groups that are leading in sustainability practices in the city, region and beyond.
  3. Increasing the influence of sustainability themes on our research and impact related work.
