Animal Welfare is core to many key aspects of developing a more sustainable world, with increasing public awareness and demand. This theme aims to understand the place of animal welfare in a more sustainable society, and includes questions around improving welfare of existing livestock and newly-farmed species, while also making these sectors more environmentally sound, economically viable and socially acceptable.

We study the effects of new more sustainable production systems, such as sustainable intensification or nature-based options, on the welfare of animals, and assess public and stakeholder attitudes towards different aspects of sustainability and animal welfare.
