The Inflammation, Injury and Repair research group undertakes fundamental and applied research in all aspects of tissue repair and injury, with particular focus on tissue degeneration, inflammatory conditions, fibrosis and regenerative medicine. The causes of, and responses to, injury and degeneration can be influenced by various factors, such as age, diet, environment and co-morbidities, and these are areas of current research within the IIR group. Particular expertise lies in the mechanics, biophysics, biochemistry and metabolism of connective tissues.

The group has received substantial research funding from BBSRC, NERC, DEFRA, Action Medical Research and Arthritis Research UK, as well as a number of commercial partners.
