Career prospects

How will a School of Modern Languages Master's degree be useful to me?

In an increasingly competitive environment, there are many good reasons for adding value to your undergraduate degree by continuing to study at Master's level.

Will the MA help me to find a job?

This depends on what you want to do after your degree. If you wish to go into teaching, or further research, an MA is often a mandatory requirement. Recent studies show that a postgraduate qualification may accelerate career progression in a range of professions.  Employers value the transferable skills gained in postgraduate study.

These include:

  • working independently
  • managing a research project
  • meeting deadlines
  • processing large amounts of raw data
  • working in teams
  • presentation skills
  • writing skills
  • language skills

Above all, the experience of a year's intensive literary and critical study, with the support of world-renowned experts in the field, will undoubtedly be a rich and rewarding one, whatever it may lead to when you complete the course.
