Learning and Teaching
Theme lead: Dr Peter Allen
The Learning and Teaching theme brings together members of the School who seek to study, understand, evaluate, and champion innovative, evidence-based, best-practice in learning and teaching. We conduct research on a broad range of applied pedagogic topics that, when seen collectively, are aimed at helping all students thrive in education. We use qualitative, quantitative, and mixed research methods, dependent on our specific aims and research questions. Much of our research is co-created in partnership with student researchers working at the first-year undergraduate through to PhD level.
Our vision is to conduct and disseminate rigorous and useful pedagogic research that improves student outcomes and experiences at the University of Bristol and beyond.
To realise this vision we aim to:
1. Work in partnership with students and external collaborators to design, conduct, and disseminate high quality research on pedagogic topics of mutual interest.
2. Use our findings to positively impact learning and teaching practices and policies locally, nationally, and internationally.
3. Raise the research capacity and profiles of teaching focused colleagues in the School and beyond.
