Being BME in STEM

An event held by student researchers and staff at the University of Bristol on 6 February 2019 highlighted the challenges and experience of being BME in STEM across South West Universities. The findings of the event are outlined in the report below.

BAME in STEM

Staff

All staff who identify as BAME or have an interest in BAME are invited to join RACE Matters - a virtual network where staff can share experiences and suggest positive steps that could be taken to improve awareness of BAME opportunities both within the University and in the wider community. Ideas from RACE Matters are shared and considered at the BAME Staff Advisory Group.

Students

The university also has many student societies and networks which can offer support and allow students to share experiences. These include the Bristol SU Black and Minority Ethnic Network, the Bristol SU International Students Network and the Asian Society
