Autonomous Networking

The HPN Group has established world-leading research and development activities on machine driven autonomous networking:-

(1) Ultimate zero-touch management and orchestration of network services

  • Machine Synthesizable and Self-composition: Development of technologies for complete autonomous composition and operation of network services
  • Hardware and software network functions as microservices: Development of a novel micro service ecosystem that can support virtualised network functions comprising combination of commodity virtual network functions, as well as hardware specific network functions
(2) Machine learning assisted network control and management

  • AI assisted network abstraction: AI techniques for hiding complexity of optical network
  • Multi-objective network function optimisation: AI and Game Theory techniques for network function placement and MEC orchestration
  • Optical network control: AI techniques for end-to-end spectrum and bandwidth management
  • Quantum and classical information coexistence: AI techniques to support co-existence of classical and quantum channels in the same fibre.
