Neptune 2

A Thermo-Finnigan, multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass-spectrometer (MC-ICPMS). This was the twentieth production line instrument of this kind. This instrument is used in solution mode (with the option of an ammonia gas input for boron isotopic measurements) and in conjunction with the Excimer laser.

This instrument has an RPQ filter with discrete dynode multiplier and also a block of six channeltrons, set at one mass unit separation at high mass, for simultaneous collection of U-series isotopes and Pb. This second MC-ICPMS allows us to separate measurement of spiked and unspiked runs for elements where this is relevant (e.g. Ni).
