An annual celebration of the pioneering work of our postgraduate researchers
Organised by the Bristol Doctoral College in collaboration with the University Research Institutes, Research without Borders is the University of Bristol's public festival of postgraduate research.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our flagship festival of PGR research, Research without Borders was adapted in a number of ways and our 2020 celebration took place online and included:
- The Research without Borders Showcase became an online virtual showcase.
- Our 3MT competition was conducted via Zoom and then screened on Facebook Premiere and YouTube.
- Our postgraduate research students also presented their research at two online lectures developed in partnership with The Cabot Institute for The Environment and The Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Public Health.
2020 winners — Research without Borders photo showcase exhibition
Our photo showcase winner was Octavia Brayley, School of Biological Sciences - How does light pollution affect the behaviour of crabs?
The runner-up Sophie Chambi-Trowell, School of Earth Sciences Tiny chompers: What do the diets of the earliest mammals and reptiles tell us about modern ecosystems?
2020 winners — Three Minute Thesis (3MT) final
The 3MT Competion took place as an online event with postgraduate research students presenting to an online judging panel this was then screened on Facebook Premier and Youtube.
Winner: David Brigido, School of Civil, Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering 'Coffee, Fish, and Aeroplanes'
Runner up: Sophie Osbourne, School of Physics 'A Diamond Radiation Detector for Use near a Miniature Sun'
