UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) Applications Open

If you're an early career researcher, looking to establish yourself as an academic leader, the School of Chemistry is currently welcoming applications for the UKRI Future Leader Fellowships scheme.

The School of Chemistry welcomes applications for the UKRI Future Leader Fellowship scheme, particularly in the areas of Engineering Biology, Chemical Biology and Digital Chemistry.

What is it?

This scheme aims to support excellent and high potential future research and innovation leaders. Applicants must demonstrate within their application how the UKRI FLF award will support and enable their long-term career goals and clearly demonstrate that their skills and experience at the time of application match those expected.

The objectives of the scheme are:

  • To develop, retain, attract and sustain research and innovation talent in the UK.
  • To foster new research and innovation career paths including those at the academic/business and interdisciplinary boundaries, and facilitate movement of people between disciplines, organisations and sectors.
  • To provide sustained funding and resources for the best early career researchers and innovators.
  • To provide long-term, flexible funding to tackle difficult and novel challenges, and support adventurous, ambitious programmes.

The assessment criteria are:

  • research and innovation excellence
  • applicant and their development
  • impact and strategic relevance
  • research and innovation environment and costs

Am I eligible?

The scheme is designed to support outstanding early career academics who are transitioning to or establishing independence (the scheme is also open to other sectors/business and SME’s). Senior academics are not permitted to apply. There are no eligibility rules based on years since PhD or whether the applicant currently holds a permanent/open-ended academic position.

How do I apply?

Submit the expression of interest form (UKRI Expression of Interest Form (Office document, 29kB) and CV and outputs template (UKRI CV and Outputs Template (Office document, 32kB)) to the SRD-mailbox@bristol.ac.uk for consideration by Friday 31 March 2023.
