Inspirational Bristol Scientists

The Inspirational Bristol Scientists board celebrates the outstanding achievements in research, teaching and contributions to our community of 8 undergraduate and postgraduate students from historically underrepresented groups in STEM subjects. The students come from numerous different schools within the faculties of science and engineering.

The board was created by Lara Lalemi and Fred Manby in late 2019 to establish a prominent focal point for future generation role models. Its location in Chemistry, next to one of the busiest lecture theatres in the University, means that 1000s of students and staff see the board every week.

The Inspirational Bristol Scientists board was initially launched in 2019. Following speeches by Lara Lalemi and PVC Nishan Canagarajah, the board was unveiled, featuring eight students who have made outstanding contributions to the University.

The board’s relaunch was delayed until 2023 due to the SARS-CoV2 pandemic, this time the celebration was led by the Dean of Science, Jens Marklof.
