Why did you choose Bristol for your undergraduate degree?
The University of Bristol has a fantastic reputation in the science and research community; therefore, I knew that attending this university would academically challenge me and allow me to further develop my science knowledge taught by leaders in the subject. Choosing Biomedical Sciences allowed me to explore what area of science I enjoy, as the course provides a huge range of modules to choose from. Bristol is also a busy and vibrant city, with plenty of activities to do, where you can try a new hobby or join a new society.
How would you sum up your experience?
I have had an amazing experience at Bristol, where I have met some wonderful friends and stepped out of my comfort zone socially and academically. I was able to join a range of societies and make a difference to students by being a course representative for three years. I learnt a lot of skills during the three years such as scientific writing, presenting, working in a team on a science-related project, and developing my critical thinking skills.
What were the staff like?
The staff were very friendly and supportive, and always reachable via email or in-person office hours. My personal tutor and dissertation supervisor were brilliant, and always offered support when I needed it. Throughout the three years, all staff have been kind and encouraging to me, whilst offering high-quality and interesting teaching.
How did your degree influence what you went on to next?
I enjoyed studying physiology and pharmacology modules, which confirmed my motivation to pursue postgraduate medicine. I found the study of the human body and disease fascinating, especially in the third year when the modules were extremely specific. Next year I will be working at a hospital, to gain further patient contact experience, after which I hope to apply for medicine.
What advice would you offer to students contemplating a place at Bristol?
Bristol is an amazing city, which is perfect for a student. The University has a campus and a city feel, making it great if you are choosing between the two. Everything is accessible by foot, again making it easy to explore and get around. I really recommend choosing Bristol as your city for university.
