Creating real solutions to reduce financial exclusion in communities across the UK

Our friends at SETsquared Bristol iareinviting researchers (staff and PGRs) to tackle the challenge of Financial Inclusion by joining its Mission programme. Working in multi-disciplinary teams, you will create solutions to challenges faced across the financial service industry and felt in communities across the UK.

The initial commitment is a 3-day in-person programme kick off that will take place at Engine Shed on 21st – 23rd May 2024. This will be followed by a 3-month period (with a month-long break in August) of weekly Wednesday afternoon working sessions and a finale pitching event attended by academic, start-up, government, and industry stakeholders on 17^th October.

Participants will form teams to solve challenges informed by SMEs and industry leaders relating to the promotion of financial inclusion through technology and innovation that can have a significant societal impact.

Resources will include training and support from experts, advice and coaching from mentors, and a £1,000 expenses fund for each team. Expected outputs could range from the development of new business ideas, briefs for subsequent research, or the grains of new policy for development.
