Policy makers and academics gathered at BDFI recently to take part in an interactive workshop, looking at the critical challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence.

Delegates from UKRI and other policy makers attended a workshop in BDFI's neutral lab to debate the risks and opportunities that the rise of AI is bringing.

Over 25 delegates took part in the discussion, which included the themes of AI harms, trust in AI and opportunities related to emerging technologies.

Organised by Colin Gavaghan and Ola Michalec, the event included a tour of the BDFI facilities and rounded off with outlines of potential research proposals.

Professor of Digital Futures, Colin Gavaghan, said: "This was a great opportunity to bring together researchers and policy makers who are at the forefront of the AI debate. We're in a period of huge change, where technologies are being developed more quickly than law makers and regulators can keep up with.

"It's essential we monitor and challenge the developments, making way for the societal benefits AI can bring, but keeping a watchful eye on the risks."
