BDFI academic Professor Rebecca Coleman will shortly be embarking on a Knowledge Exchange Placement (KEP) with Knowle West Media Centre, spending a day a week for the next 18 months working on a range of initiatives within their established community.
The placement will develop their mutual knowledge and understanding, build networks, deliver an ambitious programme of impact activities and share learnings locally and internationally.
The KEP aims to centre and expand the impact of perspectives of marginalised communities in debates about, and the design and implementation of, digital technologies and futures.
The three objectives the KEP will focus on are:
- develop the existing relations between BDFI and KWMC
- plan and deliver an effective and ambitious programme of impact activities;
- share learnings and contribute to longer-term benefits for the KWMC community, and local, national and international organisations, networks and projects.
Rebecca said: “I’m delighted to be working with KWMC on a regular basis and to be able to learn more about their vibrant and engaged community. This KEP will allow us to build up networks and develop crucial skills and capabilities within the university, and expand our existing practices in centring collaborative and community-based perspectives in digital innovation.”
Carolyn Hassan from KWMC said: “This placement is a fantastic opportunity for both BDFI and KWMC. We bring a programme of activities – workshops, festivals, courses, drop-ins – focused on community participation in digital innovation across local green spaces, Filwood high street and homes, as well as city-wide, national and international networks on social and digital innovation through which KEP activities and learnings can be shared.”
