Bristol Digital Futures Institute partners with LV= General Insurance

Press release issued: 30 May 2022

Bristol Digital Futures Institute (BDFI) announced a new partnership with major personal lines insurer LV= General Insurance (LV= GI) today (Monday 30 May). The partnership has been established following the work LV= GI has carried out with the University of Bristol and is part of a new commitment to digital innovation.

Together, the insurer and academic research hub will collaborate on the development of sustainable, inclusive and prosperous digital technologies.

LV= GI joins 27 business, cultural, local government and community partners working in partnership with BDFI and one another on research projects to build better digital futures. Fifteen LV= GI’s data scientists and engineers are co-located in the University’s Engineering Faculty.

BDFI Co-Director Professor Susan Halford said:

“Bristol Digital Futures Institute and our researchers have built positive collaborations with LV= GI and I’m delighted that they are now joining us a formal partner as they expand their innovation teams.  The ‘Explainable AI Decision Making’ project is already demonstrating how we can work together to develop more inclusive processes for the development of machine learning’

BDFI Co-Director Professor Dimitra Simeonidou said:

“We already had the opportunity to collaborate with LV=GI in applied data engineering projects such as developing solutions for predicting water escape and damage in homes. Expanding our plans for collaboration, will allow to address the wider Connected Living agenda from a sociotechnical perspective in line with the BDFI mission.”

Keith Misson, Transformation Director at LV= General Insurance added:

“Our commitment to the Bristol Digital Futures Institute takes forward our ambition to innovate and invest in the future of digital technology and multi-disciplinary skills. Digital innovation is critical for our sector and this partnership enables us to collaborate and contribute in a sustainable, inclusive and prosperous way. This will build on the long-standing partnership we have with the University of Bristol and will be hugely beneficial for all as we share knowledge, skills and opportunities.”
