Where is the West Residential Village?

The West Village is the largest in terms of the area it covers. Most residences within the West Village are based in and around the Clifton area, which is a popular and picturesque suburb of Bristol known for its Georgian architecture, cafe culture and green spaces. Clifton offers a mixed selection of busy shopping and nightlife areas as well as quiet residential areas. Some of our West Village residences are further out and in more residential areas.

The West Village is approximately one mile from the University campus and has the benefit of being both close to campus and to the city centre.

A bus pass for the Bristol UniBus U1 service is included in the accommodation fees for students living in undergraduate or mixed undergraduate-postgraduate accommodation. This is a fast and frequent bus service linking the city centre with the campus. The pass will allow you to have unlimited travel on the Bristol UniBus U1 service (term time only) for the 2022/23 academic year.

Alternatively, it is a short cycle from the West Village to the University campus, taking approximately seven minutes, or it is around a 14-minute walk.

What's life like in the West Village?

For some of our students, the West Residential Village is seen as the ideal combination of being close to campus and city life, but without the noise and business of the city centre, making it a very popular village with students who live there. Some of the West Village residences are grouped close together, offering a great sense of community.

Where our West Village residences are in residential areas, being away from larger groups of students offers a quieter and often more studious environment which is popular with many of our students. Some of the West Village residences have smaller social spaces, or in some cases use of facilities at a neighbouring residence, which can mean you need to actively plan to be social and get to events, if they're not happening right on our doorstep. Being the most spread-out of the villages, students in the West Village may need to travel more to link up with the wider village community.

It's important to remember that although you'll be able to select West Village residences as options in your application, the University will allocate your residence so an offer of accommodation in a specific village cannot be guaranteed - find out more on our how to apply pages
