Work package 1: Mendelian randomisation

Leads: Sarah Lewis and Siddhartha Kar

A core part of ICEP is understanding the factors that have a causal effect on cancer risk and progression so as to help us to develop treatments that target these factors and improve outcomes. A key method here is Mendelian randomisation, which uses genetic information to understand causal risk factors. Watch the video to learn more about Mendelian randomisation.

We will focus on a range of areas that may be important in cancer risk, including metabolic health, inflammation, sleep, physical activity and smoking. We will also use new methods that we have developed to look at the effects of these factors on cancer progression.
