Visa Types and right to work: Quick reference guide

Global Talent visa
This visa is renewable and gives the individual the right to work in any role until the expiry date of visa. Indefinite leave to remain can be applied for after 3 years on a GTV.

High Potential Individual (HPI)
This visa be valid for 2 or 3 years depending of course of study and gives the individual the right to work in any role until the expiry date of the visa. The visa is not renewable and to continue in a role and maintain the right to work they would need to move to another visa type.

Graduate visa
This visa be valid for 2 or 3 years depending on course of study and gives the individual the right to work in any role until the expiry date of the visa. The visa is not renewable and to continue in a role and maintain the right to work they would need to move to another visa type.

Student visa
This visa allows a student to work a maximum of 20 hours per week until the visa expires. Depending on the course they are studying and their finish date there may be occasion where they are able to work full-time.

Skilled Worker visa
This is a sponsorable role, and an individual would be able to work in the role that they have been assigned a certificate of sponsorship for by the employer. They can remain in the role until the expiry date of the visa which they can apply for an extension of if the sponsored role is to continue to maintain their right to work.

Dependant visas
This visa allows an individual to work in a role with no restrictions until the expiry date of that visa. To continue in a role after the expiry date they would need to apply for an extension of that visa to maintain their right to work.

Hong Kong BNO visa
This visa allows an individual to work in a role with no restrictions until the expiry of that visa. To continue in the role after the expiry date they would need to apply for an extension of that visa and maintain their right to work.

Ukraine visas
This visa allows an individual to work in a role with no restrictions until the expiry of that visa. To continue in the role after the expiry date they would need to apply for an extension of that visa to maintain their right to work. Presently this visa can only run for a maximum of 54 months which falls shy of the 5-year ceiling to apply for ILR.

Refugee
This visa allows an individual to work in a role with no restrictions until the expiry of that visa. To continue in the role after the expiry date they would need to apply for an extension of that visa to maintain their right to work.

Pre-settled status
This immigration status allows an individual to work with no restrictions. However, once they have reached the expiry date of the pre-settled status they would need to apply for settled status to continue in the role and maintain their right to work.

Settled status
There are no right to work restrictions or time limits on this immigration status.

Indefinite leave to remain
There are no right to work restrictions or time limits on this immigration status.

Citizenship
There are no right to work restrictions or time limits on this immigration status.
