Meet Mirabelle Habib, our MSc Global Wildlife Health and Conservation student, who shared her experience on the course with us.

Why did you choose to study at Bristol?

I chose to study at Bristol because I really enjoyed how vibrant the city was and the community ethos surrounding activism (particularly regarding the climate crisis). I was also really drawn to my undergraduate course, and once I'd been living here for three years, I didn't want to leave.

What have you enjoyed most about your time here?

I have most enjoyed the range of amazing, driven people I’ve gotten to meet during my time here. Everyone I've met has introduced a new idea or perspective, and I feel like my time at Bristol has had a huge influence on my outlook and personal philosophies.

How has the university supported you during your time here?

The university has been really supportive with career planning, I've attended some CV and cover letter workshops which went very in-depth. I also just dropped into the careers building once and they helped me write a cover letter that I’d been stressing about. It's been a relief to feel that I'll be supported after I leave.

What are your plans after you graduate? How do you feel the course has helped you achieve your goals?

After I graduate, I plan to work in conservation or zoology. As long as I'm working with animals, I'll be happy! The MSc Global Wildlife Health and Conservation course has really helped me figure out which aspects of working in conservation resonate with me —for example, I really enjoyed the hands-on wildlife rehabilitation module.

What would you say to someone thinking of studying at Bristol?

To anyone thinking of studying at Bristol: make sure you make the most of it. How your time at university influences your future doesn't have to be just your degree. It could also be a new interest, your ideals or your friends. You could discover what you don't want out of your life, as well as what you do (which is arguably just as important). Make sure you use the time to experiment and stay true to what you want to do. I've earnt my degree here, but also learnt so much about myself and the world around me.
