Staff story - Francesca Booth

18 June 2024

Francesca Booth, Research Project Officer and alumna of Bristol Veterinary School (BVS), shares her favourite thing about working at BVS and what she enjoys doing at her spare time.

What is your favourite thing about working at Bristol Vet School?

I love the community feel, I’ve worked here since finishing my Masters degree (16 years ago!) I truly feel like I belong to a large and supportive family. The welcoming atmosphere and helpful nature of everyone at BVS makes me feel valued and included. It’s really rewarding to be part of such a cohesive team, all dedicated to achieving a common goal.

What kind of things do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

I enjoy spending time with the people that matter to me the most. I am crafty (usually learning from YouTube videos or going to workshops), love to cook and bake while practicing Yoga and Pilates relaxes me. I work Monday to Thursday, reserving Friday’s for quality time with my 22-month-old son, sometimes hectic but always enjoyable.

What is the most interesting part of your job?

I love working with researchers, we all share the same inquisitive nature, it’s so interesting to hear about the different varieties of research at BVS, they are all so different.

What motivates you in your role?

I’m genuinely interested in all things research, the opportunity to make a meaningful impact and assist individuals along their paths brings me immense satisfaction. Being an active member of the research community at BVS is a source of great enjoyment for me, and I find motivation in contributing to publications and fostering collaborations. Collaboration lies at the heart of my role; I frequently engage with diverse individuals and facilitate connections between different communities or researchers. I work with a team of highly specialised individuals in Research Operations, it’s great to be part of a team that can support and look out for each other.
