Tim Parkin, head of Bristol vet school

2 May 2024

We are delighted to announce that Professor Tim Parkin, Head of Bristol Veterinary School, has been appointed to the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) Board of Directors.

The AAVMC, is a member institution of over 40,000 dedicated professionals, staff and students promoting academic excellence in veterinary medicine. The organisation aims to protect the health and well-being of people, animals and the environment, values which very much align with those of Bristol Veterinary School, as Tim Parkin explained:

“Bristol Veterinary School is constantly looking to advance veterinary science both nationally and internationally. We are focused upon creating a sustainable future for animals, humans and the environment alike.”

Tim Parkin’s appointment to the Board of Directors follows his recent election by members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Council as the incoming Junior Vice-President. Tim has been given multiple accolades over his career, something he reflected upon:

“Every role is different and brings its own set of drivers and learnings. They are, however, all linked by a common goal to improve the experience of veterinary practitioners and to enhance the welfare of animals and people, both now and in the future. It’s a pleasure to play a small part in a bigger, and continually evolving, picture.”

Tim is passionate about enhancing the landscape of veterinary medicine and is looking forward to supporting both the RCVS the AAVMC to help member institutions improve performance and shape a better future for the academic veterinary community. Tim spoke about what he would like to achieve in both roles:

“I am very much looking forward to both roles and to helping advance veterinary knowledge and education. I hope to initiate positive and innovative change to shape the future for the academic veterinary medical community worldwide. The pandemic has shown us that the world we live in is volatile and the importance of being innovative and adaptable. This unprecedented situation has forced our institutions to become more creative when looking to address challenges. I hope to bring this to both my roles and am looking forward to supporting both teams with their ambitions.”
