Bristol Collegiate Research Society (BCRS) Symposium & Public Lecture
Hosted by the Bristol Veterinary School (Faculty of Health Sciences), on behalf of the Bristol Collegiate Research Society, this symposium and public lecture will bring together international experts to highlight the recent advances and interventions in sustainable food production in the face of human-made catastrophes in a global context.

Professor Sir Charles Godfray is a population biologist with broad interests in science and the interplay of science and policy. He has spent his career at Oxford University and Imperial College London and is currently Professor of Population Biology and Director of the Oxford Martin School at Oxford. His research has involved experimental and theoretical studies in population and community ecology, epidemiology and evolutionary biology. Currently he is working on the control of malaria vectoring mosquitoes using novel genetic interventions, and the health, environmental and economic consequences of changing patterns of consumption of meat and dairy. He is particularly interested in food security and chaired the Lead Expert Group of the UK Government Office of Science’s Foresight project on the Future of Food and Farming and until recently chaired Defra’s Science Advisory Council. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2001 and knighted in 2017.

The symposium will be held at Wills Hall Conference Centre with lunch in the Wills Hall Dining Room
Wills Hall Conference Centre is located on the southwest side of Wills Hall and will be signposted on arrival. This venue is easily accessible by U1 bus service from the University of Bristol main campus or Citylines 1-4. Alternatively, you can travel by taxi (V Cars: +44 (0)117 925 2626 www.v-cars.com/locations/Bristol) or car parking is available for approximately 70 cars at Wills Hall with additional spaces around The Downs. Parking is paid for using the PermitSmarti App and instructions are provided on site. This is enforceable 24/7. For members of the public or alternative travel options Bristol City Hall is easily accessible by the U1 bus service, by taxi (V Cars: +44 (0)117 925 2626 www.v-cars.com/locations/Bristol) or car parking is available nearby by at College Street Car Park, Trenchard Street Car Park or Millenium Square Car Park.
Following this link for the U1 Bus Timetable. This services runs every 6mins from the University of Bristol to Stoke Bishop between 8:20 and 10:30 and every 20mins from Stoke Bishop to University of Bristol between 12:00 and 17:40. From there it is a short walk to either the Symposium at Wills Hall or the Public Lecture at Bristol City Hall.
