Long Ashton to Senate House Cycle Route

The scenic route

This route uses quiet roads including a pleasant ride through Ashton Park. The route is even better going home when you don't have to climb up Providence Lane.

Alternative to steps 1, 2 and 3 below - Go straight along Long Ashton Road to the junction with B3128.  Cross this road and enter Ashton park.

  1. In the middle of Long Ashton, turn left up Providence Lane. This is a long uphill lane.
  2. At the crossroads, go straight across into Longwood Lane.
  3. Halfway up Longwood Lane, turn right into Ashton Park.
  4. Follow the road round through the park to the entrance on Abbots Leigh Road.
  5. Use the cycle path to the lights and cross Abbots Leigh Road, then Bridge Road at the lights.
  6. Go down Bridge Road to the Suspension Bridge and cross following the cycle signs.
  7. At the end of Suspension bridge Road, go right at the mini-roundabout into Clifton Down Road.
  8. Left into Merchants Road and straight on through Victoria Square and into Queens Road.
  9. At the mini-roundabout, carry on down Queens Road (the right fork) to the Victoria Rooms.
  10. Cross the bottom of Whiteladies Road and turn left into Queens Avenue (by Habitat).
  11. Carry on up Elton Road to Senate House.

The other way

This route avoids the steep hill up Providence Lane but uses busier roads.

  1. Go through Long Ashton
  2. At the t-junction turn right into Ashton Road (B3128).
  3. Turn left into the cycle path that leads on to the slip road that joins the end of the Long Ashton Bypass.
  4. Go along the dual carriageway following signs to City Centre, crossing the Avon on the swing bridge.
  5. Straight on at the traffic lights along Hotwells Road.
  6. At the roundabout at the end of Hotwells turn left up Jacobs Wells Road.
  7. At the top, go straight on up Triangle West, then left along Queens Road and round to Queens Avenue (opposite Habitat).
  8. Carry on up Elton Road to Senate House.

Going home, you can avoid Hotwells Road.

  1. Go down Elton Road to Queen's Road.
  2. Cross Whiteladies Road at the pedestrian crossing opposite the Victoria Rooms then cross Queens Road. (This avoids riding all the way round the Triangle.)
  3. Go up Queens Road, through Victoria Square and along Merchants Road.
  4. Turn left into Regent Street.
  5. Second right down Hensman's Hill.
  6. Left into Cornwallis Crescent.
  7. Right down Clifton Vale.
  8. At the bottom, cross the dual carriageway and go right and follow the signs back to Long Ashton. Note that on Brunel Way.
