February is Sustainability Month, which involves a huge range of events to raise awareness of green initiatives and encourage students and staff to take action on climate change.

Making exams more sustainable
This summer, the University of Bristol Exams Office has made some significant changes to their policy to improve the sustainability of the exams process, including measures to reduce paper and plastic waste, and to reduce the carbon footprint of travel to exams.

Introducing the Allotment+ Community Garden
In May, a team of staff and students from the School of Biological Sciences, External Estates and Sustainability came together to create the Allotment+ Community Garden project. Students from the Bristol SU Roots Community Gardening Society also helped to secure an Education Innovation Grant to develop an area of unused land, next to the David Smith Building on St Michael’s Hill.
Nineteen volunteers signed up for our ‘big clean’ and made a tremendous effort to clear and start to create this fantastic usable space.

Charity Shop Blitz
Student volunteers from the Lloyd's Scholarship Programme gave 40 hours helping sort donations at Sue Ryder.

Student volunteers help protect Manor Woods Valley Orchard
University of Bristol students teamed up with members of the Environment Agency’s research team to help battle against the ever-persistent brambles and common hogweed in the secret orchard at Manor Woods Valley nature reserve in Bishopston, South Bristol.
