Energy, carbon and water

The target of our Climate Emergency Declaration is to become net-zero in our Scope 1 & 2 emissions from our buildings by 2030. Reducing energy and water emissions is crucial to meeting our target. We have been continuously focused on lowering our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions with our Carbon and Water Strategy setting out activities we undertake to make it happen within the key 8 areas for carbon reduction

Scope 3 Emissions

Scope 3 emissions are included within the Carbon Management Plan. We set out the baseline for scope 3 emissions in the following areas:

  • Procurement
  • Staff and Student Travel for business
  • Staff Student Daily Commute
  • Termly Student Travel
  • Waste and Water

We are still refining our methodology for understanding our Scope 3 emissions, though we are currently using the sector’s HESCET tool to undertake our reporting to HESA. However, we wish to do more work on our baseline before setting targets for the majority of our Scope 3 emissions.

Our greenhouse gas emissions calculations are certified to ISO 14064
