Significant care was taken with the listed building throughout restoration; from detailed removal of 150 years of paint to using a sniffer dog instead of an invasive investigation to detect dry rot.

The aesthetics of the listed building had become tarnished by haphazard installation of surface mounted cables; the wiring was rationalised and recessed into the walls, thus restoring the historic appearance of the building.

Low energy lighting with intelligent and flexible control systems was installed, reducing carbon emissions. Other energy efficiency measures included resealing windows and improved air tightness, as well as insulating the roof space.

Enhanced cycling facilities and provision of a transport information point offered more sustainable transport options, while enhanced segregated waste storage maximised recycling and minimised waste.
