Workshops on studying with a disability
We run a selection of workshops to help you whilst at university.
Am I dyslexic?
If you think you have dyslexia, book on to this workshop to find out about:
- dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, such as dyspraxia
- how dyslexia can affect your studies
- how to get an assessment for dyslexia
- how to check if you could get funding to pay for an assessment
- the benefits of having dyslexia identified
- the study support available for students with dyslexia.

Applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)
If you have a disability or medical condition, then you might be able to apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).
This workshop will explain what the DSA is, how to apply, and what support you might receive through it.

- how AD(H)D can affect your studies
- how to get an assessment for AD(H)D and the different types of assessment
- how to check if you can get funding to pay for an assessment

- the study support available for students with AD(H)D.

Assistive technology (AT): Mindmapping
All students with disabilities who have access to online mindmaps are invited to these workshops to learn how to apply the use of the software effectively in their studies.
Mindmapping: Planning and writing an essay
Learn how to use a mindmap through the stages of writing an essay, from the original plan to writing key sections and exporting to a finished document. Bring an essay title.
Mindmapping: Collating research
Learn how to systematically use electronic mindmaps to collate readings ready for project/written assignment work. Bring an idea to research.
Careers Service
If you are a current student or graduated from the University within the last 3 years, you are welcome to join Careers Service events. Events are either online or in person at 5 Tyndall Avenue.

This information session will help you learn more about how adjustments work and what further support is available to help you navigate the process.
Employer Showcase
A two-day multi-sector autumn careers fair to help you learn more about access arrangements for disabled and neurodivergent students.
Careers Service support
Disabled and neurodivergent students and recent graduates can access a range of support:
- A dedicated careers guide for disabled and neurodivergent students.
- Book a 15 minute careers meeting in person or online, or complete the Careers Service support request form to find out more about how we can support you as a disabled or neurodivergent student and graduate.
- Get expert advice about work-related adjustments and advocacy support with EmployAbility. Book on mycareer or contact info@employ-ability.org.uk.
- Register with EmployAbility for advice on work-related adjustments and advocacy support.
