Cancel your contract before the tenancy start date

Find out how to cancel your University accommodation contract before your tenancy has started.

If you decide to not to live in University accommodation, you must cancel your room booking and follow the relevant guidance depending upon your individual circumstance.

If you do not follow this guidance, you may be liable for your full accommodation fee. 

Undergraduate students

To cancel your accommodation contract before the tenancy start date, email student-accommodation@bristol.ac.uk. You will be released from your tenancy agreement, and do not need to make any more payments.

Postgraduate students

To cancel your accommodation contract before the tenancy start date, email student-accommodation@bristol.ac.uk.

If you have paid Rent in advance but don't meet the conditions of your offer, you will receive a full refund for your Rent in advance. You will not need to make any further payments.

If you have paid Rent in advance and do meet the conditions of your offer, but you decline your place, you will not receive a refund for your Rent in advance. There is an exception if you cancel within 7 days of paying. You will not need to make any further payments. There may also be exceptions for certain nomination properties.
