Charity Knitting and Crochet Session - Innocent Smoothie Hats

4 April 2017, 5.00 PM - 4 April 2017, 8.00 PM

The Dining Room, The Brambles

Come join our staff knitting group at the Brambles from 5pm-8pm on 4th April, where we will be getting together again to knit for charity. Armed with knitting needles and crochet hooks we will be creating some Innocent Smoothie Hats.

Back in 2003 Innocent had an idea. They asked some older people, and some younger people, to knit little woolly hats. They then put those hats on their smoothies, and for each one sold they made a donation of 25p to Age UK. It seems the idea has snowballed and so far the people of the UK have knitted an astonishing 5 million hats. Together over £1.7m has been raised, and it's raised awareness of the great work done by charities like Age UK.

All knitters/crafters are welcome from beginner to those of you with more experience, staff or student. Pop along armed with your needles or hooks and some colourful wool – the brighter and more colourful the better and any pompoms, etc you want to use to jazz them up.

If you don’t have your own there will be a selection of needles, crochet hooks, wool, scissors and pompoms on the day; along with printed copies of the various patterns available on the website.

All the hats made will be posted to Innocent before the next deadline of 31st July.

If you would like to have a bit of a practice beforehand you can find the patterns here - - from the basic one to patterns that are more intricate/detailed/fun! As the hats are so small they are great for stash busting and can get a bit addicting to make.

Additionally if you are unable to make this session but would still like to get creative, you can send your hats in the internal mail to Cat Martin, Health Sciences Finance.

All the completed hats will be sent to Innocent by 21st July. Any received after this time will also be sent as and when they are receieved but may not make it onto the smoothies this time round.
