Tai Chi Movements for Wellbeing (TMW)

What

We are a small and friendly group who meet to explore mindfulness through movement. Everyone is welcome.

With its origins in Tai Chi and Qi Gong, TMW is a sequence of gentle movements and gestures which promotes physical and emotional wellbeing. The TMW sequence distils elements of these arts into a simplified form. Completing it takes just 10 minutes and can be transferred readily to our daily lives. It can help calm the mind, gently energise, improve our balance and help manage pain and long-term conditions. The movements are suitable for all ages and abilities and can be practised standing or sitting.

Classes are offered on a pay as you feel basis to cover the trainer's expenses: £3 Concessions, £5 Standard and £6 Supporter. A share of proceeds is made to nominated charities (which this year include the Teenage Cancer Trust).

Join us and our qualified teacher and enjoy "a little oasis of calm". "It's like putting a full stop on the week and starting again fresh afterwards". "I feel so different afterwards".

How

TMW classes are continuing online only for the time-being, via Zoom. Class recordings are available on request for use within 7 days following the class. Please contact Andrea Finney for the live link or to request recordings.

There is never any obligation to have your camera on and, apart from the trainer's camera, everyone is encouraged to have their camera off while moving. Some people like to chat at the end of the class but that is entirely optional, and many disappear straight away to get other commitments.

Although we recognise that online classes are not everyone's preference, a recent survey found that many students think they work just as well. The benefits of joining online included convenience, joining from any location and fitting classes in around other commitments and caring responsibilities. Despite the remote nature of online teaching, some have also highlighted the connection they feel to others during the class, the opportunity to see more clearly how the trainer is moving and the ability to follow their own body's needs without the pressure of keeping up with others.

When

Wednesdays 5-6pm: Beginners Up. These classes are suitable for everyone from complete beginners to the most experienced.

Fridays 9.30-10.30am: Intermediates. These classes are suitable for anyone with at least some experience of the sequence from the Beginners Up classes or from the introductory and deepening courses I run from time to time.

Important: Classes occasionally need to be changed or cancelled at short notice. To keep up to date, please contact Andrea Finney to be included on the TMW mailing list.
