Welcome to the LGBT+ Staff Network

We are here to support you in your time at the University and help to create an LGBT+ community by listening to your ideas and work with the University to make changes - whether that be through creating inclusive policies, supporting Pride, creating more inclusive toilets or ensuring LGBT+ visibility across the University. All members of staff at the University are welcome to join, including postgraduate researchers.

How can you get involved with the network?

To join the group please contact us via email at We will add you to the mailing list so you can receive information about upcoming events, socials and relevant and useful news/information.

The network organises monthly/regular socials which get put on the website and are advertised in our newsletter. If you have any ideas for a social please contact the network (

The LGBT+ Staff Network blog - Blogs on personal stories, LGBT+ History month 

While each month the newsletter will summarise network activities, we would like to invite members to join our brand new Facebook Group to help keep in touch in more regular ways throughout the month. The group will remain secret on your Facebook profile to respect privacy. 


We are inclusive of and accessible to marginalised and underrepresented LGBT+ groups 

As a network we strive to ensure that we are accessible to all the groups under the LGBT+ banner. We also ensure that we amplify the voices of those who have intersecting marginalised or underrepresented identities, for example LGBT+ People of Colour and people with disabilities.

LGBT+ Staff Network Senior Champion - Robert Kerse, Chief Operating Officer

"I am proud to be the senior champion of the LGBT+ Staff Network. The Staff Network has a very important role to play in helping the University to support the LGBT+ members of its community. It is also a great way to make new connections and friendships. We all need to feel free to be ourselves at work and to have a network of people who face similar issues to support us. None of us can reach our potential at work and have a positive experience without this. The wellbeing of our staff and the creation of an inclusive environment where every individual can thrive is at the heart of my role as the University's Chief Operating Officer. 

I would not have been able to achieve what I have in my career to date without the support, advice and encouragement of LGBT+ colleagues - both current and previous. There are times when it's been tough and I've had to be brave in promoting my sexuality as a gay man to help the organisation I've worked for to take some big steps forward to both recognise and celebrate their LGBT+ communities. I don't think that I could have done this without the support and encouragement of LGBT+ colleagues.
