New blog posts from the PLURISPACE research project

23 May 2022

Two blog posts derived from the HERA-funded research project PLURISPACE – Negotiating diversity in expanded European public spaces have just been published by Thomas Sealy and Pier-Luc Dupont, respectively Lecturer in Ethnicity and Race and Research Associate at SPAIS. The first post, entitled ‘Debating difference and diversity: Combining multiculturalist and interculturalist approaches to integration’, can be read on the London School of Economics’ British Policy and Politics site. Based on the analysis of documents produced by civil society organisations, supplemented by interviews, it explains how multiculturalism and interculturalism, usually seen as antagonistic approaches, are actually often combined on the ground. The second post, entitled ‘Resisting the multicultural backlash in the UK’ and available on the PLURISPACE Blog, zooms in on the resilience of multiculturalism and how it is often supplemented not only by interculturalist but also by cosmopolitan opinions. The PLURISPACE project, which runs until November 2022, is led in the UK by Tariq Modood, Professor of Sociology, Politics and Public Policy and Director of the Centre for the Study of Ethnicity and Citizenship. It includes partners from Sciences Po in France, Pompeu Fabra University in Spain and Oslo University in Norway.
