International Booker Prize: Bristol Translates tutor shortlisted

2 May 2023

Bristol Translates Spanish tutor Rosalind Harvey has been shortlisted for the UK’s most prestigious translation prize.

Harvey received praise for her translation of Still Born, a novel by Guadalupe Nettel. The Economist noted that the original Spanish text has been translated “into precise and plain, but deeply moving, prose.” Published in English by Fitzcarraldo, the book explores the fundamental question whether or not to have children.

Rosalind Harvey has been with Bristol Translates from the start of the summer school in 2021, leading one of the Spanish workshops. She is also the co-founder of the Emerging Translators Network, which has helped launch the careers of several accomplished professionals.

“We keep our fingers crossed for Rosalind. It's a very strong field, and so it will be a tough job for the judges, but her work is really fantastic”, says Bristol Translates co-director Ros Schwartz.

The winner will be announced on 23 May 2023.
