The title of this year’s Year Abroad photo competition was “The Year Abroad in Lockdown”, in recognition of the disruptive effects of the pandemic on the year. The aim was to encourage photo entries, not only from students who’d managed to get a year abroad during restrictions but also from those who’d been forced to spend the year wholly or partially in the UK. Covid restrictions didn’t stifle creativity or talent in any way, as you can see. The images from the winners and runners up certainly reflect what an unusual and unprecedented year it was.

Photo Competition winner Keira Dempsey said "How lucky I was to take this photo. So many of my friends couldn't make it abroad last year." Shane White, pictured with his photo from Venice “Dropping In”
