BBC Radio Bristol interview's Professor Marcus Munafo regarding the smoking ban bill

22 April 2024

This episode covers how generation "Alpha", which includes anyone born since 2009, aims to be the UK's first smoke free generation

It is discussed how introducing new legislation around smoking, will make it harder for young people to purchase cigarettes, and therefore leads to a reduction in the behaviour to start smoking.

Prof. Munafo says:

"Smoking is a real drive of social inequality and health inequality across different parts of society now".

Prof. Munafo goes onto discuss how it's typically "not an adult choice" to begin smoking and therefore this legislation will help to "push young people out of the risk window".
