Jacob Barnett receives Bristol PLUS Outstanding Award

2 June 2021

A Psychology second year student, Jacob Barnett, has received an Outstanding Achievement Bristol PLUS Award.

We are delighted to announce that Jacob Barnett, a second year student in Psychology, has received an Outstanding Achievement Bristol PLUS Award.

8 Faculty of Life Sciences students out of 22 students have recently achieved their Bristol PLUS Outstanding Award – which is a fantastic result in challenging times over this last year!

Students delivered projects of their choice from the themes of Global Citizenship, Innovation and Enterprise and Sustainable Futures. Each student attended a panel interview and wrote a reflective report.

A summary of Jacob's report includes:

"Over three months in the summer of 2020, I conducted a research project regarding the current economic and psychological problems with the NHS framework for dealing with perinatal mental health problems. As a result of the project, I produced a presentation to a board of experts which provided the basis for a new online system which aims to diagnose perinatal mental health problems in 2 weeks, as opposed to the NHS' goal of 2 months. The project also formed part of a research grant proposal which would allow the online tool to become available for public use."
