Return to the World Economic Forum for Professor Jeremy O'Brien

Professor Jeremy O'Brien has been invited by the World Economic Forum - Network of Global Future Councils to be co-chair of the Global Future Council on Computing for the 2016-2018 term.

The Network of Global Future Councils is an invitation-only knowledge network that serves as a forward-looking brain trust to the World Economic Forum and the world at large. Each of the 35 councils comprises 25 globally renowned experts from business, government, academia and civil society. 

The Annual Meeting for Shaping the Future, is the world's largest brainstorming meeting, reserved for Global Future Council members. This year's meeting will be held on 13-14 November 2016 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 
 
Professor O'Brien has been actively involved with the World Economic Forum over the past few years. Recently he presented a talk  on working "Towards a quantum computer" at their Annual Meeting in early 2016. As part of the future of computing council he will explore how developments in Computing could impact industry, governments and society in the future, and design innovative governance models that ensure that their benefits are maximised and the associated risks kept under control.

Professor Jeremy O'Brien is a Professor of Physics and Electrical Engineering, at both University of Stanford and University of Bristol. He is founder and director of the Centre for Quantum Photonics at University of Bristol.

He is currently developing ways to bring quantum computing into reality and the market to transform artificial intelligence, healthcare, energy, finance, cyber security and the internet. Using a photonic approach to manufacture a universal quantum computer in a silicon fab, exploiting silicon photonics developed for optical interconnects in the semiconductor industry.
