University of Bristol School of Physics welcomes applications to host independent research fellowships. There are a number of funding schemes which support talented researchers in starting an independent research career at Bristol. We have extensive experience in supporting these applications: guiding you towards the most appropriate scheme and also helping you to draft a highly competitive application. Our school is home to approx. 60 academic and over 65 research staff, carrying out research spanning our 6 research themes (Astrophysics, Particle Physics, Quantum & Soft Matter, Quantum Engineering Technologies, Materials & Devices and Theoretical Physics). We also have over 190 postgraduate students and more than 600 undergraduate students enrolled in our extensive range of taught programmes. 

We have specific support in place to help our research staff pursue their career and research goals. We offer a wide range of assistance from funding and commercialisation to public engagement, as well as staff development training and courses tailored for researchers.

Our School is home to nearly 60 professional services staff undertaking a wide range of roles in both administration and technical support.  Your role within the School of Physics will give you the opportunity to learn new skills and contribute to the ongoing success of a world class Physics school.
