Jeremy O'Brien is awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant

30 January 2015

Congratulations to Prof. Jeremy O'Brien, director of the Centre for Quantum Photonics for being successful in his application for an ERC Consolidator Grant worth around €2,000,000 to further his research in Photonic Quantum Computing.

A few years ago Prof. O'Brien was awarded a starting grant from the ERC which, in part, helped him to develop the Centre for Quantum Photonics into the world leading research centre it is today. The ERC Consolidator award builds on the starting grant and is designed to support excellent Principal Investigators such as Prof. O'Brien in further consolidating their research in their chosen field.

As one of the most highly cited researchers in his research area and winner of numerous awards for his contribution to the development of Quantum Technologies, Prof. O’Brien successfully proved the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of Photonic Quantum Computing

This Award compliments CQP’s deputy director, Dr Mark Thompson’s recent award from the ERC; a starting grant to develop his research in Quantum Photonic Engineering.

Congratulations to both Dr Thompson and Prof. O’Brien for their success.
