The members of BOSS, who are predominantly members of the Centre for Quantum Photonics, presented the exhibition "What is Light?" and it aimed to demonstrate the wave-like nature of light through some well known phenomena such as diffraction and interference. Furthermore, the physics behind waveguides and its applications in telecommunications and integrated photonics were also explained.How do optical fibers work? What happens when light travels from one medium to a different one? What else can we do with light in waveguides besides sending and receiving information? These were just some of the questions that were asked by the public.

The Bristol Bright Night, also known as Researchers’ Night in the rest of Europe, is an initiative funded by the EU Commission through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, and it was coordinated by the Bristol Natural History Consortium's Festival of Nature in collaboration with the University of Bristol and the University of West of England. The Researchers Night was celebrated simultaneously in 300 cities across 24 countries.
