Jacques Carolan, a third-year PhD student with the Centre for Quantum Photonics has been shortlisted for the 2013/14 ICT Pioneers award under the category of "Transforming Society."

UK ICT Pioneers is a partnership between industry and the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC.) The award recognises and awards exceptional second and third year UK PhD Students in ICT related topics such as Photonics, Computer Sciences and Electronics.

In order to be shortlisted for the award, students have to show their ability to communicate and demonstrate the excellence and exploitation potential of their research. Jacques' research project has focused on verification techniques for large scale linear optical quantum computers.

This is not the first time Jacques has been in the finals of a prestigious competition. Just last year he was a finalist for Fame Lab - Talking Science at the Cheltenham Festival, where he spoke about using Quantum Physics for secure communication.

The ICT Pioneers Award Ceremony will be held on the 26th June at the QE2 Conference Centre in London.

Good Luck Jacques!
