The reception students at Southville Primary School are currently studying the differences between liquids and solids, so on a fine sunny morning Dr. Tom Scott, Dr. Olly and Dr. James (the short one) went to the school. The kit list for the day included:

• liquid nitrogen
• cream
• condensed milk
• chocolate buttons
• balloons
• chocolate, banana and strawberry milk
• plenty of sweets
• a hexacopter

The first item of business involved getting very sticky, by observing that when chocolate buttons are rubbed between palms they change state (otherwise known as melting). More sweets and mayhem followed, with an experimental ice cream flavour– chocolate, banana and strawberry. The ice cream demonstrated the reverse reaction from liquid to solid, and was very well reviewed.

To nicely round off the hour, “Hexie 1", made a cameo. She soared up to impressive heights, and over the heads of the children, finishing off the action by depositing packets of haribo amongst the children. Dr. Scott and team proved popular at Southville Primary School, so will hopefully be returning in a few months for round two.
